While TDs have protested furiously about the threat to bank ATMs in rural towns, the cash machine in the Dail has been removed due to lack of use. An audit found that only €200 was withdrawn in one four-week period last year.

The Houses of the Oireachtas Commission, the cross-party body that runs Leinster House, took the decision to dispense with the ATM after an analysis showed that each withdrawal of cash could cost it €5.63, due to the high charge levied by operators.
