CORNER BROOK, N.L. — A 27-year-old man charged with using a front-end loader to break into the Leading Edge Credit Union in Corner Brook and a stolen van to crash into the North Atlantic gas station in Steady Brook appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook for a bail hearing on Monday, Aug. 1.

In both those cases it’s alleged that Joshua Weir tried to steal ATM machines from the businesses.

They are just two of about 23 offences, listed on seven information sheets, that Weir is alleged to have committed during the month of July. The information sheets allege crimes in the Corner Brook and Humber Valley area and in Grand Falls-Windsor.

Some of the documents list him as living in Meadows and others as being from Conception Bay South.

The offences started on July 11 in Grand Falls-Windsor, where Weir is alleged to have been in possession of crystal meth and cocaine.

On that same day he is charged with being in possession of instruments that could be used during a break-in, including a propane torch, a full-face balaclava mask, a pair of Terra gloves, a roll of duct tape, two small screwdrivers and vise-grip pliers with a wire cutter.

The items were found in a tote bag in the back seat of a vehicle known to be occupied by Weir, the Crown alleges.

He’s also charged with failure to comply with an undertaking that he not communicate with a particular woman.

On July 18, it’s alleged that Weir broke into the Medicine Shoppe in Pasadena and committing mischief by willfully damaging the pharmacy.

He’s also alleged to have broken into Toromont Cat in Pasadena and caused over $5,000 damage to a fence and the building.

On July 24, it’s alleged that Weir committed an assault and a sexual assault on a woman who was parked in her vehicle at the Man in the Mountain site near Riverside Drive.

He’s also charged with threatening the woman with a weapon, an airsoft/BB gun, and with possession of that weapon.

And he’s charged with breaking into the gas station in Steady Brook and causing more than $5,000 damage to the building.

The other charges he faces include destroying more than $5,000 worth of property at the Leading Edge Credit Union, theft of a motor vehicle from Marine Contractors, possession of a stolen CAT loader owned by Marine Contractors, intent to commit an indictable offence by having his face masked, dangerous operation of a vehicle, attempted theft over $5,000 at the credit union, break and enter at the credit union with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of failing to comply with a court order not to contact a particular woman.

Weir presented a surety during his bail hearing who agreed that he could live with them, and the woman told the court she is confident Weir will comply with any conditions imposed on him. She said she was prepared to make any cash deposit required by the court.

Judge Wayne Gorman will give his decision on bail at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
